Who am I?

THE MISSION
Hi! My name is Steven Vongchanh, you can call me Coach, Coach V, or even Coach Steve. I am not a professional golfer or anything close to it. However, I have been self taught since the age of 15. At that age the only golf I experienced was the driving range with my best friend. No one in my family played golf but there was an old set of clubs back in our tool shed with old wooden drivers. Neither of us played for our school, but we enjoyed going to the range and trying to hit the beat down car about 150 yards out. I was a smaller teen compared to others my age and so the driver was a club that was too bulky for me to swing, but I could hit a 5 wood just as far as my buddy. So well that I decided to find a newer Dunlop 5 wood to upgrade out of the wooden ones had been hitting. In my early twenties and going through anger management, the driving range became my outlet to let out my steam. And so I bought my first actual set of golf clubs. I had a fairly clean natural swing and through trial and error, a subscription to Golf Magazine, I learned how to improve and hit all the shots in the game. I carried a 20+ handicap for a long time and so I have seen all the shots in the game of golf. The first club I frequented was a mountain resort with 66% of the holes with water hazards. Long story short, I’ve had to fix my own game and learn as much about the game as I could. I’ve had the pleasure to aid my friends and have told them, the moment they score better than me, the lessons stop. And this has happened on multiple occasions.
The closest to professional golf I have ever been was working as a bartender at a golf course. When we weren’t busy, we went out for a round of golf and so I got paid to play golf. This game has brought me a sense of serenity. It has brought me peace. It has allowed me to enjoy nature and time with others not being distracted by electronics. When was the last time you had 4-5 hours where the only thing you had on your mind was enjoying that time and space, not thinking of anything of the world but the present. I would love for everyone to find that peace of mind and serenity. And I would wish that you give golf a try. My goal is to help the newbie who knows nothing about the game learn about it and how to play. I want those who are challenged to be able to get the help they need to fix any issues you have in your game to be able to master it. I at no time feel like I can help those playing competitively to win, but believe I can help someone learn to compete.
They say the happiest people are those who make a living doing what they love. I love training and development and I love golf. This is my shot at living a dream so I hope that you might give me a shot at helping you learn or improve at this game. Thank you so much for visiting and please feel free to reach out with any questions you have. Good Luck and God Bless!
